Registrations of heavy vehicles were broadly stable in the second quarter, with the largest changes on the positive side. Electric vehicles also continued to gain ground across the Nordics.

Van registrations had an excellent quarter across the Nordics. Denmark and Finland finished slightly below the level in Q2 2025, down 0.4% and 6.2% respectively, while Norway grew by 14.5% and Sweden by 25%.

For N2 trucks, the picture was more mixed. Registrations in Denmark fell by just over 20%, Sweden finished 1% below last year, while Finland and Norway grew by 15% and 24% respectively.

The N3 segment finished very close to its Q2 2025 results. Registrations fell by 10.3% in Denmark and 5.3% in Norway. Finland closed the quarter 1.1% higher and Sweden 2.8% higher.

Electric vehicles gain ground among heavy vehicles

The powertrain breakdown shows that Finland trails far behind on electric vehicle shares in all three segments. For vans, Norway leads with an electric share of 55.9%. Growth of more than 50% brought Denmark’s share to 44.1% in Q2, while Sweden reached 28.7%. Finland’s electric share for vans fell by 24% compared with Q2 2025, to 15.2%.

Teemu Rennola, CEO of Finland’s Value Clinic, offers the following analysis of the situation in Finland:

“Finland’s economic situation is clearly reflected in the van market: registrations fell by 6.2% in the second quarter, and the share of electric vans fell by 24%. Uncertainty remains high in this segment, with no clear signs of improvement ahead. Interestingly, rising fuel prices resulting from the crisis in the Middle East have not shifted demand towards electric vehicles: registrations of both electric and gas-powered trucks were unchanged or fell. This tells us that the issue is less about price and more about general economic caution, with companies postponing investment in their fleets.”

For N2 trucks, electricity is the leading powertrain in Denmark (55.6%), Norway (62.4%) and Sweden (63.8%), while Finland’s electric share is just 5%. The shares in Sweden and Denmark fell slightly in Q2.

In the N3 segment, electric shares grew across the board, although levels remain relatively modest. In Q2, the share reached 6.2% in Denmark (+140%), 10% in Sweden (+50%), 16% in Norway (+122%) and 2.2% in Finland (+6.5%).

Jonathan Schacht Halling Nielsen, Deputy Director of Mobility Denmark, comments:

“Zero-emission trucks account for a much larger share of new registrations in our two closest neighbouring countries. That tells us the transition could have progressed much further. We have already seen political support for transforming heavy transport, but simple and stable conditions are still needed to make it financially attractive and practical for hauliers to choose electric trucks, for example.”
